Children Enrolled in Nevada Check Up

Measurement Period: 2021

The number of children enrolled in Nevada Check Up (NCU), part of the state's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to provide low-lost comprehensive health care coverage to low income, uninsured children (birth through 18), not covered by private insurance or Medicaid.

Why is this important?

Families with incomes too high for Medicaid and too low to afford private health-insurance coverage (income levels up to 200% of the federal poverty level), may not be able to access basic healthcare, further impacting the overall health and cost to the community.  Nevada Check Up (NCU) provides a cost-effective way for qualifying families to manage their children’s basic healthcare needs.

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) was authorized under Title XXI of the Social Security Act.  Like Medicaid, CHIP is a joint federal-state program, with funding extended through September 2027. The Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) manages NCU eligibility. The Division of Healthcare Financing and Policy (DHCFP) manages the NCU health policy benefit. The Medicaid provider network and/or Medicaid contracted managed care organizations provide covered services to eligible children. The only cost to the Nevada Check Up enrollee family is a quarterly premium.
