Sentenac Canyon and Cienega

A Good Idea

Description

The Sentenac Canyon and Cienega property is an 884-acre parcel of desert and wetlands that is home to a riparian habitat and more than 55 species of birds, including at least one species on the federal endangered species list. In 1993, The Anza-Borrego Foundation and other park officials used Transportation Enhancements (TE) funding to acquire the land.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the acquisition of Sentenac Canyon and Cienega was to protect the land from development and preserve its wildlife habitats.

Results / Accomplishments

The acquisition of the land protects important wetland and riparian habitats close to State Route 78 and County Road S-2, and also encourages pedestrian and equestrian traffic on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail.
